do you know if the rear end is the original? the reason it matters is, there are only a few gear sets and pinions that match the original 10 bolt rear ends of our era. Assuming that the rear is the original, a good place to start is the local speed shop, and the local pick a part.

A mid 60s GMC rearend is a bolt in, they used Spicer rearends, both the model 44 and 60. I had a 60 in one of my 1959 trucks(recently sold), stout, 3.54 gears, posi, 6 lug to match the front brakes.

If you don't mind doing some relatively easy welding (swapping spring perches) you can put in a 10 bolt from a 71-81 camaro, it will give you 5 lug bolt pattern that matches the 5 lug hubs/drums from a 51-54 car that will slip right on the stock front brakes.
