I have a 1985 chevy c10. I'm trying to figure out how to get to the wiper switch in the column. SOS

steering wheel... use lock plate depressor to remove snap ring and then the lock plate..   is your wiper switch bad... there are several version..

Windshield Wiper Switch
Part Number: SW1050
Application: Without tilt wheel
Notes: Intermittent wipers

Windshield Wiper Switch
Part Number: SW610
Application: With intermittent wipers
With tilt wheel

Windshield Wiper Switch
Part Number: SW1454
Application: With tilt wheel
Without intermittent wipers

by the way.. how is the turn signal stalk.. those break also..

if your  turn signal stalk where you push the tab to get the wipers to work.. is broken.. those are available individually...

if you have delay wipers.. or even 3 speed wipers..

you are better off taking the delay board off the front of the wiper motor..

carefully taking a good look with magnifiers.. so you can see if there are cold solder joints.. that have failed... i have fixed several of them by just resoldering..

i thought i had pictures.. but a friend was using my cell phone camera.. and she did not push save after each image... the whole day was written over..  i wanted to set the cell phone to clock function and throw it to see it time really does fly...

once you get down to photo 10.. you will have access to the wiper switch...

this is probably the wiper pulse board for the 85 86 chevy C10 and up pickups..

i have not had one of these in my hand...

Dr199 85 86 Chevypu Wiperpulseboard Zps236e65ef

this is the repair piece for the turn signal stalk..

Dorman 49265 Zps76ea0f00

this is what the cruise control switch with delay wipers looks like..

to remove this.. wrap your left hand around it.. like you were holding a golf club.. and pull straight.. usually pushing off with your thumb..

now... i am going to ASK you nicely.. to NOT CUT ANY WIRES..

they actually all slip out and back in with only a little trouble...

to get the wiring out of the column..

you will have to first..

see if it has a string that goes up or around to the P R N D 2 L indicator.. its on the shifter bowl... right side.. feel for it..

then you can either use a 15MM or 9/16 deep socket to remove the nuts that hold the steering column plate to the dashboard..

please have some tape to mark it so you know which side it goes on.. it will ALMOST fit either way.. but will damage stuff if you try to get it on backwards..

now the 4 bolts into the bracket that goe into the column.. 1/2" or 13MM depending on your column..

the bracket comes down..

behind the bracket.. you will want to disconnect the turn signal switch...

you will find a plastic wire guide that's snapped on over 2 of the welded on nuts.. this prevents the wires from getting cut by the shifter bowl movement..

be careful.. there are several harnesses in this guide...

the turn signal switch wiring..

the wiper switch wiring..

the TINY cruise control wiring harness.

please tie a string thru the hole on the end of the cruise control harness. so you can get it reinstalled later.. once you have it out.. untie..

the turn signal switch connector gets taped with only 2 wraps of electrical tape so its flat with the ribbon cable.. this slips up with the aid of some long screw drivers.. usually working the tilt function also when equipped..

the wiper switch harness is usually last out and first in..

describe exactly which version as i have listed above.. you have...
