at some point my stock side view mirrors were removed and the mounting holes filled with bondo. i bought myself  some nice repro mirrors that i want to mount.with out any experience in this area im thinking about a hammer and a punch to break it up and the a tap to clean the threads. any better ideas? cause thats all i got.

is the surface painted..

most mirrors are mounted with self tapping screws..

you can probably mount them .. either with RIV NUTS or WELL NUTS..

i don't know how gm mounted the mirrors to 53 3100 models...

there are also neat low head allen bolts.. give it a different look... use the stainless versions to prevent rusting..

so i shouldn't attempt to remove the bondo in the mounting hole. i should use self tapping screws and go through it? i like this much better. oh and it isnt painted. its in primer. i have to run to the hardware store today to get more button head bolts for the fenders and i will grab the hardware for this and get it on. thanks.,
