I have a 58 chevy truck, 3speed manual trans, I put in a new speedometer cable, and took out old speedometer gear 18teeth,and put in new one
when i start truck with speedometer cable disconnected at dash, put truck in gear with jack under rear end, the cable does not turn.... maybe has wrong gear, (does anyone know what correct number of teeth it should be) why doesn't the cable turn?? any sugestions? or help

Thanks

use a tiny screw driver... with the cable disconnected at the transmission...

you should not be able to spin the driven gear...

there are a bunch of combos... in gears on the output shaft.. and driven gears..

what is your rear end gear ratio...

what is the stock tire size...

if there is grease in the square hole in the driven gear.. the cable will not slide in..

Thanks a lot for this info, cable is new, I removed the adapter with o-ring on side of transmission and can see gear inside transmission, looks ok, I just don't know what the correct speedo gear teeth number is... I tried an 18 tooth didn't seem to make correct contact inside and cable doesn;t spin, I believe my rear is 4:10,
