Maybe you can help with another question, my truck has original 6cylinder engine--my question, above the voltage regulator on the firewall is a small metal object it has 3 prongs for something to plug into it? does someone know what this is?also on the firewall is a object (not metal) about 1" square and 3-4" long, has screw attachements on both ends, nothing is attached to it, can you tell me what this objet is and what wires should be attached to it? I have looked at pics of other 58's and see these objects in same place but can't tell what wires go to themthanks again
there are a LOT of possible things.take a photo.. post it to photobucket.. use the code that begins with IMG..pictures are best.. as i don't have a truck to compare...you can also post part numbers off it..and perhaps any wire colors...
this picture shows the voltage regulator on the right..the white device is hidden by the air cleaner is the ballast resistor to reduce voltage to the points while the engine is running so the points don't burn out...the device above the voltage regulator ... my best guess.. horn relay... what colors wires? there might be an OVERDRIVE RELAY on 3 speed over drive models...horn relay will have red, black and dark green wiresi don't see colors listed on the 58 car wiring diagram i have handy.. i know i should have a 58 truck diagram. but i don't know what file its in right now..
what kind of exhaust manifolds are those... that engine looks nice..i wonder in looking at your intake and exhaust..if one of the header manufacturers ever made headers and a matching tubular intake with similar shape to the 4 barrel slant six intakes... less 90 degree bends.. interchangeable tops so you could mount a single barrel... something like a 97 stromberg or 94 holley.. or a holley flange 2 or 4 barrel. perhaps clifford already has them.. i have not looked..
