Hi, I,m new to this forum and just lookin for some help. I bought a 65 longbed recently. Someone had put a tilt steering column in the truck (worst hack job I,ve seen in awhile, anyway..). I finally got the front marker lights to come on and they no longer come on when I hit the brakes! Next problem is that the front markers turn off as soon as I turn the headlights on. Does anyone have any idea where else I should be looking? The only obvious damage to wiring is at the column, which I have been trying to repair. I think it may be a ground or short issue, but not sure and not sure where to look. Never had this body style before and have wanted one for awhile. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

sometime later than your truck was produced... headlight switches kept the front parking lights on when the headlights come on..

you did not mention which brand your truck is..  as there are various later headlight switches that might be dropped in.. or just rewire your switch connector...

this is an early 70s headlight switch from GM .. and was used up until the 90s...

in this switch the headlight circuit is supplied by the RED wire on #1... the headlights are on pin 6..

the parking ,  tail , dome and  dash cluster illumination are powered by the tail light fuse...   you will notice that there is a jumper strip between pins 3 and 4.. this turns the parking lights on while the headlights are on..

if you come back and identify.. which brand truck you have.. i might be able to help you with interchanged switches that will keep the parking lights on...

if you have a digital volt meter.. print and run this test...  its the first to verify the grounds are mostly intact...
