i just picked up a 51 truck 3 window, the guy i got it from has done some mods and i would like to know if its good mods or something i need to change and what something like this would range for as far as a price ! first off the truck runs and drives, it has a camaro front clip installed right, has a camaro rear end as well, then it has a complete drive tran out of a 95 chevy van throttle body, auto trans, all the wires gauge cluster, fuel tank, crusie, and everything works and wires are hidden about as good as can be, all new brake lines, calibers, everything to do with the brakes is new also new gas lines, power brakes, steering colum with tilt out of the van, it has the stock frame from the clip back cab mounts were made, but it has some rust, floor pans, kick pannels, a little on the fenders, bed is in real good shape has new tubeing for the floor to go on, the rest or the body is mostly orig. im just wondering if ive going something that is worth putting some money it to and if i ever wanted to sell would not lose alot of money ! just any feed back would be great thanks for your time !
Well... not being able to see everything you have going on there I'd say it depends on how well the clip is added. The camaro clip is a great mod. It's been done for decades now. I like it better than a weak mustang II or even the old Volarie torsion. I'd say second best to an aftermarket weld in from the specialists advertised in the mag. I'd say as long as the clip is in straight and welded with good practice and technique with gussets plates and/or back cut and boxed your ok 'cause anything else can be corrected. The guy did alot of work for sure. To me it sounds like the 6 to 10 k range with no body work done but that depends on the milage and condition of the power/trans components. Hard to say from here. I'd pay extra attention to the brakes. Double check everything is tight and not leaking anywhere? Did the guy relocate or put in an aftermarket master? Is the rear disc now? Proportion valve? How 'bout those lines, are they double flaired? Did the guy make his own lines? How 'bout the steering joints and shaft connections? Everything good, like Flaming River Joints, colapse cage/shaft? Alot goes into the things you mentioned and even more goes into makin' it right. Your safety and anyone riding is top priority... as you know this. ...not lookin' to upset you...just looking out for you bro.As far as the typical body rust, no biggie. And not loosing alot of money depends on the fish you can get hooked at sale. Sounds like the extensive work is done and if you got it for a good price you can put the icing on the cake with paint and body and make out pretty good. Good to hear from another old truck enthusiast. If you find time post some pics of the 'ol gal.
let me start by saying thanks for the reply, it has the steering column out of the van with the colapse shaft and all brake lines are new with all the valves, he took the master cyl off the van as well and all looks real good, the front clip looks like it is all welded good and strait, i guess the guy builds race cars and did it on a jig, but im not sure, nothing seems to be leaking, but the rear is drum brakes and front is disc. i will try to get some pics up as soon as i can, i have started sanding off the old paint and for the most part the bed, fenders, dooors, are all in good shape the floor pans and kick pannels are not so good, but thanks again and ill try to post pics of it !
Sounds good speedy. It's good to hear another piece is gettin' ready for the road. It'll be good to see a few then and now shots here as you go along with your project. I got the GMC hood emblem chromed now and soon plan to post some more on the aluminum intake pleneum I was working on.
i cant get pics to load up on this site is their any trick to doing it ?
In the "Anything Goes" section of the forum mpayne describes how the site will accept photo's. It's not to bad once you get going with it. You have to open an account with Photobucket. After you load you pics there, you hover over the photo and a window will pop up with a few format selections to choose from. Your looking to click on the IGM tab. A Copy indication will flash for a second then open up the forum and paste it in. You won't see the picture but the IGM code will appear. Once you load all the picture IGM's you can click preview and then you'll see the pics. Let me know if you have problems.
