I need to replace turn signal lever. I bought an aftermarket one for that truck , and I'm having a hard time installing it . Can't make out the fuse box wording in order to wire in the new assembly. I tried to just unplug the old assembly harness that comes down the column and tried the old stick each wire in the plug going down to the fuse box and no luck. Anybody have some other ideas.
this is what the turn signal switch should look like.. or are you installing a universal clamp on versioni don't have a 66 pick up wiring diagram in front of me..because this won't have a hazard switch...you will have a wire from the turn signal flasher..you will have a wire from the horn relay.. you will have power from the stop light switch..both of those will seem to have power on it...there may be a lamp circuit for the gear shift pointer...so... a wire from the turn signal flashera wire from the stop light switchperhaps a gear shift light wire...one horn wire...one wire for the left REAR brake and turn signal bulb..one wire for the LEFT front turn signal bulb.. but also for the cluster indicatorone wire for the right rear brake and turn signal bulb...one wire for the right front turn signal and indicator
I am installing a universal clamp on type , sorry bout that i should have said that up front . See my lever is broke somewhere in the column and it still works but u have to pull it in, push it up, and of course turn it off after the turn so i just don't want no one running into the back of my truck . I can't seem to get that universal type connected i unplugged the harness from the column now what. lol
I haven't installed the clamp on units before. I have replaced the OEM switch in the column before. I would send the clamp on switch back if it doesn't plug in and get the OEM column switch. It'll be a cleaner install. You'll have to get or make a steering wheel puller and fish the switch harness down the column. If you tie a string on the old wires before you pull them out it'll make it easy to pull new harness in. The connector should be direct plug in and you'll keep from cutting your harness up. If you don't have the proper tools/directions to sort/solder wires and heat shrink tubing you'll be causing more problems. You'll have auto cancel back too, with the strap on I'm sure you'll have to turn the switch off after turns.....JMO but strap on seems like a bummer.
you wont have enough wires to hook up the clamp on turn signal switch.. you will be missing ONE probably...what brand and model number did you get... i will attempt to type out a color wiring chart for you to splice..you will need a separate NON switched power wire with a turn signal flasher in it... usually in the same circuit off the constant power side of the brake light switch.. this is for the Hazard flashing power that your 66 does NOT have already..wiring in the existing TS connector.HORN.... turn signal flasher, from turn signal flasherstop light, from switch..there might be a lamp circuit in there for the shift indicator.. i don't know right now... left rear turn and stop circuitright rear turn and stop circuitleft front turn and dash indicator circuitright front turn and dash indicator circuit..let us know if you need wiring colors to splice to.... and what brand your clamp on turn signal switch is .. as they are designed slightly differently than what's in your truck... but can easily be made to worki am finally back at my loaded computer so i have wiring diagrams available for me to review..
Thx man , that is exactly what i need is the diagram to splice the clamp on to my existing wires after i unplug the old one . As you know once i unplug the column i can easily splice the clamp on to the wires going down to the fuse bx.once i get the right color squared away. I got it out of the LMC cat. it's the universal turn signal switch part #36-4900 it came with a diagram for it's wiring it has the red inline fuse pwr wire also i just need to match it with the trucks wire color .Thanks for your help man i really do appre.
wire colors at the truck turn signal harness connector..BLACK goes to the HORN relay.Dark BLUE goes to the Right front turn signal and dash indicatorLight BLUE goes to the Left front turn signal and dash indicator.Dark GREEN goes to the RIGHT REAR turn and stop lightYELLOW goes to the LEFT REAR turn and stop light. WHITE comes from the STOP LIGHT SWITCHViOLET comes from the Turn signal flasher..your truck DOE NOT have a HAZARD FLASHER wiring. but your clamp on turn signal switch might..you might be able to ADD the Hazard flasher... i have not found the clamp on TS wiring diagram. this should get you going.. if you have a radio shack close by they have a neat item called a european style terminal block.. they have 3 or 4 different sizes.. you can probably use the smallest size.. this allows you to tighten down with a tiny screwdriver to pinch the wire and still be able to loosen the screw to move the wire to a different segment.. this gives you a temporary or long term fix.. without crimps or soldering.. as a trick... want to add some kind of side marker lights on the corners of your truck..use 194 bulbs in housings..in the back.. one wire to the brown tail light wire.. the other to the green or yellow wire.. this will make it come on solid when you turn on the head lights.. and flash out of phase when you turn on the flashers on that side... this is not a trick.. this is how its done on newer GM models.. for the fronts.. it would be slightly different.. as the purple wire at the Front running lights to the dark blue or purple to the light blue.. would work.. but the front parking lights are only on in the first position of the headlight switch.. not the second position also as in the later models..but this would be REALLY trick... if you ever decided to add some kind of side marker lights sometime...i should have done this last week but i have been buzy.. and i have to colorize a wiring diagram to verify where the wires actually go according to the diagram. that only took me an hour...
Yes it should get me going I'll compare the wire colors, and I have side connectors also they do come in handy thx man you saved me some trouble.I'll let you know how it comes out. Here are the Clamp on colors, yellow -front LEFTorange -rear leftgreen- front rightbrown-rear rightred - brake sw Blk & Blu both go to in line 14 amp fuse one end the other end goes to pwr source that's for the flasher.
waynep71222,hey man i did get started and i thought had it beat using the color code you sent me . The only thing is i think i got something screwed up on the rear lights.I got a purple/blue and a white that's i am not using everything else works seems to workexcept the rear they both come on when either turn signal is turned on. Back to the drawing board.
i cannot find that a wiring diagram for that LMC part number... you have one. this is my best guess... i did find a truck lite diagramat thee turn signal switchright front red left front greenright rear blackleft rear greyinput from the turn signal flasher is blue to the P terminal on the 3 terminal flasherinput from the turn signal flasher is yellow on the L terminal of the 3 terminal flashergrey with a black stripe is from the stop light switch.. you described your turn signal colors as...yellow -front LEFT in current wiring YELLOW is one of the REAR lights..orange -rear leftgreen- front right in current wiring green is one of the REAR lights..brown-rear rightred - brake sw Blk & Blu both go to in line 14 amp fuse one end the other end goes to pwr source that's for the flasher. can you scan the image of the wiring diagram.. or take a picture of it and post it... this is what i read from the wiring diagram that is your WIRING as it was in 1955.. .if somebody changed things i don't know....BLACK goes to the HORN relay. the turn signal switch grounds this to make the horn blow..Dark BLUE goes to the Right front turn signal and dash indicatorLight BLUE goes to the Left front turn signal and dash indicator.Dark GREEN goes to the RIGHT REAR turn and stop lightYELLOW goes to the LEFT REAR turn and stop light. WHITE comes from the STOP LIGHT SWITCHViOLET comes from the Turn signal flasher..see if you can post a copy of the wiring diagram...use a free site like photobucket.. and leave it up... as others may also have this issue..in THEORY if your switch uses the colors from TRUCK LITEred goes to DARK BLUE on the trucks harness...green goes to LIGHT BLUE on the trucks harnessblack goes to DARK GREEN on the trucks harnessgrey goes to YELLOW on the trucks harness..grey with a black stripe goes to WHITE on your trucks harness...
just curious.. did you get this figured out yet???
Not quite had a few world blocks i have them all marked i gotta get back on it man.
