Looking for advise on whether a rear end from a 83 Surburban will work under my 57 Chevy 3100, I plan on using stock suspension but replacing with new shackles and Pins. At the moment I have this stripped down to rolling frame. Any help would greatly be appreciated since this is my 1st rebuild
Hey Rick, Whats do the two rears measure drum to drum? If its close I'd go for it as long as the tires clear the fenders ok. I'd check the pinion angle on the stock 57 before you remove it so you'll know where to set the 83 burb rear. What about bolt pattern? Will you have to run different rims between front and rear? You might research CCT past articles. I seem to recall alot of rear swap artciles. Good luck brother man and post some more.
The measurements are close enough, the burb has a 5 bolt pattern,I will use the wheels & tires to start off with so no problem on the fenders. Also taking rotors from burb to put on 57 so I should be ok to use the same rims for front and back. Thanks I will be sure to check the pinion angle. hopefully with somce new parts from CPP I can also convert to power steering since I belief the pump off burb should work. I am just trying my best to get it going without alot of expense.
Sounds like you've done your research and soon ready to roll. I'm looking forward to some of your pictures on this forum if you have time. Getin' done on a budget is what we're all doing. In this economy we're lucky we can do anything at all. The only thing that matters is we do the best we can with what we have. The main thing is putting the old iron back on the road, preserving this great hobby and having fun doing it.
