I need some help finding a vendor that produces a good quality bench seat for my 56 Chevy 3100. I want to stick to the classic styles, but so far all I have found are rat rod seats that put me on the floor, or buckets.
Thanks!

you might want to take hotrod ace up on his offer..
by the way.. most upholstery suppliers have versions of replacement springs to repair seat frames..
you might also want to search out the truck wrecking section for bench seats... think ranger and imported pickups from the late 80s.. and early 90s... but plan on at least checking the springs..
seeing what the width you need for your truck...

Here's the pics of the seat. As you can see it's been unbolted at the swivel arms. I'm not sure if any springs are broke but I don't think so. As you can see on the bottom it still has the under cover with the rubber baffels so it hasn't been torn apart as far as I can tell. The linkage is all there. The seat weights in at 85 lbs. and a pallet out back is 35 lbs. I'd figure 130 lbs by the time it's strapped and wrapped.

Hey fellas, I been emailing back and forth with JP2111 and spoke a couple times to him on the phone. Seems like a nice fella. I decided to give the seat to him free of charge. He worked out the shipping details with the UPS store here in town and I'll be dropping the seat off tomorrow afternoon for shipping. Do you think I should blackmail him at this point and send the seat only after he posts some pictures of his project and explains some points of interest we would all like to see? Right???? Oh well, I'll post some more of the instrument cluster install I'm working on and I got a nice Grant steering wheel I bought 4 years ago that I'm finally getting around to. Keep on truckin'

Okay, so here is the truck that will soon have an original era seat in it, thanks to HotRodAce. The truck looks a lot more shiny that it really is, the paint was done a few years ago, literally in a barn by a kid trying to learn. Needless to say it has a lot of bubbles and flaws, but nothing a good wet sanding wont fix. Engine is a small block 350 that runs, but needs some work, and I am getting ready to do a complete wiring overhaul on it. The only project I have done to date is to replace the drum brakes, because I was about to the point where I had to put my foot on the ground to slow down. I will post some more of the interior before I put in the new seat.

JP, The truck looks great. I'm sorry the seat cost so much to ship. I wish you could had got it at a minimun. I guess these shipping companies don't have much choice but to pass the pain to the consumer. With the price of fuel going up I suppose it wouldn't be any cheaper and if your gonna bite the bullet you mid'as well just get chompin'. The seat will look good once it's done up at the fabric shop. I think with alot of your truck being stock, the original seat was a good choice of direction. My paint turned out great but the clear coats got some orange peel that needs cut down and buffed. I enjoyed the gratification of doing it myself and I learned a ton. I'll do it again on the VW. The urethane seamed alittle tough to flow down. I needed it a little warmer and thinner I'm sure but I couldn't control the climate in the area I painted in. The trade off will be some money in my pocket saved from painting myself but labor dressing the clear coat. I'll post some of my interior when I get a chance, definitly post some of yours, I'd like to see the buckets out and the seat done and in there.

Wow man thats excellent. That'll be the tigers roar in the truck. You're right those buckets take away from the big back window. I like the gray color too. Good to hear from you JP. Post some more as you get more interior done. I'm pondering a headliner but I need to match the seat material I have now. Maybe I'll do a 1/2" foam backer with button snaps on a diamond pattern or something. Seeing the kids scooter and bikes back there makes me think you better get that put in the truck before the kids start bouncing up and down on it!
