So I had just gotten my dad's first truck which is a 1955 Ford F-100, it has been sitting around for about 10 years and never been started up. I looked at the oil and it's all gunky all the fluids are nasty looking. My question is what should I do to get the motor in running order, this is my first restore. Everything on the truck is original.
First and foremost. Change all fluids. Check to see if the engine turns freely. When adding oil, poor some over the vavle train. The fuel is going to be bad so I usually connect a small tank, like a lawn mower fuel tack as a supply. The carb is probably a mess but you can hit that a little later. I would disconnect the coil (so it woun't start) and try to manually turn it over before trying to have the starter turn it over. If you get to that point. Just turn it over a bit to be sure it is all moving without interferance (stuck valve for example).A spray of starting fluid may bee needed to give some life back to the old girl - Good Luck!
