I need to widen one of the rear fenders on my '46 Chevy pickup to match the width of the one on other side. I remember seeing an article dealing with this but can't find it. I think the article was about Ford F-100 fenders. I can't remember if it was in Classic Trucks, Custom Classic Trucks or maybe some other (brand X) magazine. Can any one help me?

Just out of curiosity, why is one fender wider than the other unless you have a YUBANGY in the woodshed?  Something just isn't right here.  Mismatched fenders of different years?

That does sound a little odd.

What sounds odd?  Mismatched fenders on a truck, or a YUBANGY in the woodshed?

I bought this truck in 1967 from a local farmer that was retiring from farming. To say the pickup was beat is an understatement. I learned several years later the wider fender came from a '39 Chevy PU. Chevy used a wider fender for one year only because they used left over '38 beds that were narrower and '39 rear ends that were wider, hence the wider fenders. Check out Jim Carter Truck parts, that's where I learned about the wider fenders. My truck is now going through it's 2nd rebuild and I want to use 8" wide wheels and am using a bed from a '57 with the '46 ('39) fenders. Jim Carter sells the '39 fenders in fiberglass for $350 plus $98 shipping, so I'd like to try widening the '46 fender.  YUBANGY?

Thank you very much Mike, that is the article I recalled but couldn't find. I believe this will help greatly along with the Eastwood and Northern Auto panel clamps I just bought. Steve

I have a '49 Chevy truck stock bed and want to install wider tires on the rear. I've seen in some of the mags 2"-4" extensions that make a neat fit in the bed of the truck. Where do you get these extensions. Prefer metal; I saw some a GOOD-GUYS that were plastic? Springs have already been relocated inside the frame so I can put a 10" tire very easy.
