Has anyone out there customized an air conditioner from one vehicle and put it in to a (47-55) 1st. series Chevy Truck?

I have access to a bunch to choose from. I am a pretty good fabricator, but I do not know much about air conditioners. I just don't want to pay $1000 for something I might be able fabricate.
