Classic patina

I just purchased a 1952 chevy 3100. So far the truck appears to be original. The tuck is in fairly good shape with Mostly surface rust. My question is how do I clean up the surface rust? I really like the rusted patina look, and wondered if there was a way to buff out the rust and to keep the natural patina look?

Thanks for the help.

This article from Chevy High Performance will help you clean up that surface rust. With minor sanding and stripper they cleaned off the surface rust pretty well.

Yeah if you want to strip it down to the bare metal that's what you do. Rust starts at the bottom and works it's way to the surface. If I'm understanding correctly what you are after, it can't be done. You can shoot a semi-gloss clear like KBS coatings has and attempt to arrest the rust.

Thanks for the advise.

That's what I'm looking for, something to arrest the rust until I have the money to get it painted. I think I'll be able to use both posts to help me out. I would like to get rid of the majority of the surface rust, so I would assume that I could sand and use some of the stripper to get most of the surface rust down and then hit it with the KBS until it's time for paint.

Does the KBS coating have a glossy finish or more of a flat look?

Thanks again for the help!

Don't strip your truck to the bare metal, it will be a big mistake. To seal it until you are ready to do a proper paint job just paint it with the KBS (or another similar product. Yes KBS comes in gloss and semi-gloss.

You got a case of the double take or maybe the RSI finger. Wake up there lad and get your face out of the next issue and go out and play.
As for the Patina effect; leave it out in the desert of a week or two and let the winds sand blast it, that should give you a close effect and then cote it with some UV 30 sunblock, that should stop it getting anymore cancer for a while.

I'm not sure what double take or RSI finger refers to. Care to fill me in?

AS for the desert, I live in Michigan so your no help there.

I'm trying to get it running so I can go out and play, may take until summer, just want to make sure the rust doesn't get any worse.
