Okay, my project is going along pretty well, and the wife hasn't thrown me out of the house yet. What I got is a 1954 F-100. What I've done is mustang II IFS, dropped a 460 big block from a 1973 F-250, bored .20 over, crank turned .10/.10 under, flat top pistons, competition Cam/Valve springs, performance Camshaft, Edlebrock intake manifold and performer carburetor, new headers, HEI distributor, etc... C6 trans. Anyway, needless to say, this truck has no respect for the original rear end.
What I need is advise on my rear end/differential, gear ratio, etc... Original rear end has 396 gears, and my rpm's are way too high at 55mph... This old farm truck wasn't geared for what I want... so I have been looking for a 9" hopefully with disc brakes that I could throw in. My width is about 61.5". I have also been reading about the corvette IRS, but I hate to put a bunch of chevy parts on ole blue (she has'nt a name yet), although my brake boost is from a vette. Oh well. any advise on what I should rob (80's t-bird, or couger, etc) or advise on gear ratio to do some interstate crusing, but still burn out between red lights would be appreciated....
thanks

First off, ya probably oughta pay a little attention to the wife's rearend so she don't throw ya out on yer ear. HA HA. Now as far as the truck goes, a 9" out of a mustang or cougar will fit fine. The rearends in the lincoln versailles came with disc brakes, if you can find one. They are 61" wide, which would be perfect. There's no sin in mixing parts if you can achieve your goal. Good Luck with the little woman, and if she jackslaps ya, just blame me, I get blamed for everything anyhow. *** happens, then ya die.
