Any good ideas are welcomed and appreciated as I'm getting thrown around by all f these local "so called" auto shops tring to say this is best or sell me something that just sounds rediculous.
You see my truck,,it sits nce and even,very level.
I've got a problem with the rear suspension or shocks.
I have no weight in the rear except for what I use for fuel and that comes into this problem.
If I have over 3/4 tank of fuel and corner harder than normal or hit a larger bump,,the rear wheels will occasionally hit the lower wheel well quarter.
I've got to keep a half tank of fuel in order to not do that as it's cutting into my tires,,,getting pretty bad.
I'm holding my breath and slowing on those corners,,but I notice the cuts showing on the tires and I'm really worried.
The tires alone are expensive and having one blow and destroy the wheel or even something else is just crazy to not look into or ignore.
I figured, well the tires are not sitting outside of the wheel wells to really cause such a problem so I would just change out the shocks.
Years ago I had a 69 Firebird and back then everyone seemed to be using "Hi-Jackers" on the hotrods, especially to lift the rear or give them the Jacked Up look.
I thought maybe I would go back into something like that,,but I don't like the rear lifted up look anymore.
The level look is nice and even and very smooth but I want safety too.
So now I've talked to these local Auto shops who tell me all different things.
Change to an airbag system.....no,,not on this and way too expensive as cost is in effect aslo being that I'll be replacing all four tires soon too.
So next was gas shocks with an independant control for me to use to just raise the rear and then lower it when I stop.
Sounds ok,,but again others tell me to forget it and just replace the shocks as new ones have self adjusters built in that automatically change for every drive surface.
When trying to locate these so-called shocks,,now they say they are only made for cars??
Ok,,enough already right?? I've got to find the right choice, the right shock(s) if thats my choice but aslo the right thing to do here.
People see the ride and think customize this or that and I don't think I have to go that much deeper into it.
Now if I had significant weight in it or was backroading it,,that may be different,but it's not gonna happen.
The frame is "C" channeled and already chopped 4 inches so I have those limitations also,,however there has to be some suspension or simple shock system to allow for all of this.
I have no dipping when hitting the brakes, no springie ride as most ask when talking about shocks either but I do get more of a lean in the rear only which caused me thinking shocks or even leaf spring wear.
Leaf springs do appear fine though and if it is the shocks, well I may as well replace all four to keep the level ride as new stiff shocks in only the rear would still lift the rear bed up higher than the front,,or so I've been told for this vehicle.
Anyway,I came here because I know alot of you guys can come up with the right fix and the proper way to do things without having some 18 year old telling me to put hydraulics on it!!

Not exactly a classic but after the cash for clunkers program we might have to start calling every truck that gets <20 mpg a classic.

we asked for an intelligent reply to what should be a simple question for anyone that actually had a good idea or some assistance.
I didn't realize this was an open forum for slamming people or their vehicles.
That said,,I should remove my entire subscription as well as inform everyone I know to do the same.
That will be a loss in cash to the Magazine however, and maybe all the other readers will see this too and see that this is supposed to be a help forum and not some place to have smart assed comments just because of their own jealousy and insecurities.
It is sad that some people have nothing else to do but complain or are so ignorant that they really can't answer a simple question because of their own lack of intellect.
If you don't have an answer or help, then shut up and say nothing.

Wooh settle down, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I'm just saying that we don't get to many dodge trucks around here and the way the cash for clunkers went most of the vehicles that were traded in were Ford and Dodge trucks.

Jeff,

CCT covers 1940 - 1987 trucks, the best advice I can give you is to try Truckin's website, or Sport Trucks'. They both deal with your late model Dakota, and will be able to help you. The first question they will ask you is how do you intend to use your Dodge and what do want it to do?

hey I'm no expert but sounds like you might have a tire fitment issue, or some previous owner removed the rear sway bar. Just a thought!
