1962 C10 front disc brake conversion questions

I just bought a 1962 chevy C10 and it has drums all around. I want to put discs on the front and I was wondering if instead of buying a $700 conversion kit can I just rob some spindles and brakes off a 1980's chevy truck? I know you can get the power steering box out of them and 4 speed trans. and swap them into 62' but I need to know about the front brakes.
thanks

As I remember , it has been a while. You can swap them across, but the tierod ends are bigger if you still use your draglink, otherwise get all the steering arms with the discs if possible because the draglink and tierods have a larger tapper. Your main thing will be the size of the ball joints and tierods. Check these before buying new ones. Also as I can remember, I think my truck did lower an inch or so. Check the spindle height in relation to the distance from the upper or lower ball joints to see if they are different. I guess I will have to refresh my memory since a lot of guys ask that question.

you should be able to take the entire front sub from the 80's truck and bolt it in to your frame without much mod I did with mine and the only thing I did was to get diffrent rotors to use the same rims

What about the front suspension off of a 72' truck, they have disc brakes and 5 lugs and I heard they swap right in but im not sure. I know for a fack that a 72' rear end will swap into a 62' if your trying to go for a 5 lug conversion in the rear.

That is correct, but those are hard to find, the later trucks are easy to get and are also 5 stud.

Is there a benifit in using the 72 over a 80's front suspension? I'm looking to do the same swap for my 62. I have a complete 72 front suspension but I was going to go with the later 80's to get away from the control arm shaft setup.
