I have a 1958 chevy long bed that I would like to swap on to a 1979 chevy short bed frame. The 79 is a 4x4 and the 58 is a 2wd. I have checked from axle to axle they measure close but the 58 rear after the axle is longer. Has anyone attempted this before and, what am I going to run into?

Seen it done. You'll either have to channel the bed floor, to make up for the rearward kickup in a 79 frame,[in which case the forward kickup in the front suspention equals instant lowering of the front end, possibly a plus] or build towers at cab location points to make up for the dip in the frame fore and aft. The logistics of dealing with both the old frame and procuring a new one has most of us going the IFS crossmember kit rout instead. And I didn't even MENTION the obvious wheelbase problem you'd have, yet.
