Chevy's were registered off of the engine numbers, just like Harley-Davidsons were up to 1969. When the engine gets changed there goes the numbers.

I have a 1937 Chevy pickup, and the tag is located in the engine compartment on the firewall in front of the passenger.

Tag on firewall simply states where truck truck was built and what truck was.Tag is not associated by any means to trucks registration per title. Mike

I appreciate all the replies. I found some info indicating that there was a body identification tag on the firewall, and engine and trans serial numbers. The title I have has a number I've decoded stating it is a 1/2 ton, where it was built and the sequence. Would this number be on the original engine or the body tag? Just so yall know, this truck belonged to a good friend of mine who called one day saying he had inoperable intestinal cancer. He gave me the truck because I was the only person he knew that would fix it up. The truck had been on jack stands for 32 years. Someone long ago converted the drivetrain to a 350 engine/TH350 trans. My buddy taped the exhaust shut, wrapped the carb in plastic, changed the oil every year. I got it home and had it running in 4 hrs. I pulled the valve covers and it looked brand new. Thanks for all the help. I'll be posting progress reports in the future
