i own a 1964 ford f100 3.7L 223 2wd long bed.  above my carburetor is a black container that holds a round wire brush in it.  the container has a fill line that is to be filled to with oil.  i can only assume this is the original air filter.  recently i saw up to date air filters made by K&N and Hastings but i am confused.  do i just take the wire brush out, clean out the container of the oil, drop the new filter and screw the lid on top, or is there a conversion kit for this new air filter?  any advice would be great.  thanks....Matthew

That's called an oil-bath air-cleaner. Carefully remove it, and place in a box next to where you keep your Xmas decorations, you won't need it. Call LMC Truck, or look online at their Ford truck catalog, and pick out a new custom dry element air-cleaner for your 223. It has a one-barrel carburetor.

Thanks for your help John.  Just one more question.  Do I remove the whole container, or just the wire wheel?  Thanks again.

The whole container as you call it is the air-cleaner (assembly) and it goes. Don't throw it away, keep it because its a stock original part. You will be buying an a whole new air-cleaner assembly. The dry element is replaceable.
