I've seen a lot of different truck build styles this summer out on the road. What do you think is the most popular build going on right now?

Hi Nick,

Where I'm from (Edmonton, Canada) right now the most popular trucks on the road is 67-72 chevs.  From reading your mag, the most popular is the 50'
s F-100's.  My favorite is the 55-57 Chevy.  I'm in the process of modifying a clean 56.  Thanks for the opportunity to provide input...great magazine!

I think that the 64-66 Chevy gang is making a Good showing. I'am about half-way (well all-most)on a frame off 66 Chevy C-10 Short bed Step-side. I hope to be out on the road next spring.

I'd like to put a roll call together on whos driving what?

For example, I have a '56 Chevy panel and a '75 Chevy short Fleet with a 454.

I've been looking for a short-wide '65 - '66 Ford F-100, but on my way driving home from Spokane, I found (as in bought) a pretty nice '72 Ford short-wide F-100.

In other words, what do you own and what would you like to have?

You've already seen what I drive (1981 Dodge crew-cab), but I'll put in my 2 cents regarding other trucks I used to drive and some that I would drive if I had unlimited time, space, and money.

Have owned:
-1978 Li'l Red Express
-1956 Chevy w/ big back window

Would own:
-1956 F-150 with big back window
-Dodge A-100 pickup (or even van)
-1959 El Camino
-1967/8 Chevy
-1970/1 Dodge Sweptline

Thanks for the reply, I have some of those on my wish list.

By the way, I bought another truck this morning. It's an '86 Dodge short-wide with a 318 and a Torqueflight. LowCrewzer, please stay in touch I'm gonna need some help with this one. In fact if any of you Dodge guys have some ideas to help Custom Classic Trucks out we'd sure appreciate it.

So now it's official, CCT's editor owns a Chevy, Ford and Dodge. I think I'm going to run all three in the December issue. Not to make a pun... Please stay posted.

I have a 54-F100 that is original and driveable.  It is going into Keith Craft Motorsports in Dallas next month for a complete update.

I find the magazine and the website an excellent source for trying to decide what I want done.  Also, the guys at the shop are extremely helpful.

Don't forget to take lots of hi-res photos of the process. In fact shoot a bunch of your '54 before anything happens.

What are your plans for the engine, trans, etc.?

I am putting in a 428 FE with EFI and a five-speed manual.  I am keeping the body intact (no chop or pancake action, at least on the truck) except for the "gills", and leaving the door handles and wing windows.  The bumpers are going to be pulled in and the interior will be completely re-done.  I'm going with a new frame from Art Morrison with IFS and a 4-bar in the back, with air bags.  It should ride great and still look like the beautiful classic truck (albeit closer to the ground) that it is.

Hi Ron,

Wow, an injected 428 with a 5-gear, that should be a real screamer! I've heard nothing but good things (and seen) about a Morrison chassis when it comes to handling and craftmanship.

CCT has a really good freelance photog in your neck of the woods, do you think I might be able to have him shoot some tech on your '54 going on to the Morrison chassis?
