I have a 1967 GMC sierra 3/4 ton 305 V6 that I want to convert to 1/2 ton and install a V8, I just got a great deal on a perfectly running 1988 Suburban, I paid $400, it has a 350 V8 with a 700R4, disc brakes a 5 lug rear end, besides the obvious, like the motor and trans and rear end, what else can I use in my truck, I was told that the whole front suspension cross member, arms and all could be used, it looks pretty similar and would be great if it can be done, anybody know if this is possible. any help would be appreciated!!

I think 87 was the cut off year to change cross members for bolt in.You will have to measure the frame to make sure. I don't know what the diferance is they changed in 88. Take a couple of carpender squares and put the long ends end to end and form a big caliper it will reach over the engine. Clamp them together at the width of the frame and see if its the same on both. If the frames are the same width it should be made to fit even if you have to welld some. When pulling the engine be carefull of the TV cable not to knock it out of ajustment and mess up the trans.

87 was the cutoff for pickups, but the Suburbans didn't change until the early 90s. You should be fine if you aren't expecting everything to bolt right in.

No problem Curtis. You know I had to stop and think about it. I checked when I got to the office this morning and it was 1992 when the 'Burbs were updated.

Hey Curtis,
I'm guessing you thought I referred to an interchange manual(a what fits what? book). I wish that was the case, but I determined it by the year break-off. I use Krause publication's standard guide of American trucks for this kind of stuff. There's a book review on here somewhere of a bunch of good reference books.

Google Custom Classic Trucks Chevy & Ford reference library book worm. This will take you right to it.
