If it's a really cherry stock '49 and you want to start hacking it up, I would suggest you do a lot of research before you make any dumb decisions. Post some photos of your '49 I'd like to see what you dug up.

Sounds like a good project to start with then. The stock 6 weighs more than a V8. The frame is plenty strong. I'd put an IFS clip, and hang a 12-bolt or a 9-inch Ford. What kind of budget do you have? that will tell what you can and can't do.

If money is not a big problem, don't screw around trying to make a used S-10 frame work. Call Total Cost Involved, or Fatman Fabrications and find out about a brand-new chassis that will bolt right on. (Instead of welding engine and transmission mounts, cab and bed mount). We have a complete rolling chassis guide with a lot more brands coming up in the January issue of Custom Classic Trucks that will be on the newsstand 12/16. Subscribers will see their copy a little sooner.
