I am placing a steering box from a 1980-85 full size GMC  pickup  # 7802644 .
I want to install this steering box onto the frame of my 1952 Chevy truck.........but I have discovered a problem, that being the pitman arm turns left when I turn the steering wheel to the right!

The box sits in front, not behind.
To fit into the 52 the steering box must be placed on its side so that the pitman arm is extending out to the side...horizontally.

So can anyone tell me what this gear box is turning the opposite direction to what I turn the wheel?

What solutions do any of you have?

I appreciate every one's help.

You should be using a box off a 4X4 they have the side mount like you want. There is even a kit out that uses a Tyota box. Check out a chev.

turn thre the pitman arm around from whereit is now ( if the pitman arm is in front turn it to the back , if it is in back turn it to the front )or if you are goint to mount it where the orignal box came from turn your pitman arm out to the side you might have to extend the pitman arm this should line thhe pitman arm up to the drag link  again some mods may have to be made we are going through the same thing on a 53 panel truckhope this helps

I've seen it done with the toyota box plus they are power boxes. Me myself are not a big fan of the I-beam front.I guess the way you are explaining it tells me you have the I-beam still in it.
If you are trying to steer it by using the track bar up front, it is correct that you turn the pitman arm 180 degrees. Chevrolet use the same box whether it steers from in front of the crossmember or behind. You just swing the pitman arm to the front or the back. There are also different configerations on how they mount. But you can use different ratios, eg. from the cadilac. I use this one when doing a Right hand drive on the Chevy truck. Also the trucks mount on the inside of the rails and the cars on the outside. So you see you have a bit of a variety when choosing the right box.
