Hello all, new guy here with a question about my '49 GMC 100 Long Bed.
I would like to move the gas tank under the bed, but I also want to keep a spare down there. My question is has anybody mounted a gas tank mid frame?
Or what potential issues (other than the obvious clearance issues) might I encounter. I know I'd be looking at a custom made tank for this since all the under bed tanks seem to be for the rear of the truck.
FYI: I've got the spare rack on the passenger side of the bed right now, but I rather hide it.
I searched around but haven't found anything. Any tips thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sneeky Pete (F'n New Guy)

My 86 ford has a 19 gal tank that mounts on the driver inside frame. It is a twin tank setup one out back above the spare and one up front. I think S10 is a up front tank also. There is no room for exhaust on that side if you do that. A lot of 73 on chev pickup had sadle tanks that mount on the outside of the frame. Both long and short, and on eather side. There is a CO. that makes sadle tanks for modle A's that fit between the frame and the apern on the outside. Check the adds. Check the junk yards there might be some others.

Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely look at those saddle tanks. I feel a lot more comfortable doing it if I can see truck with those tanks. I think this is the way to go.
Thanks again.

Hey FNG, you don't need no stinking spare tire — do you?

HAHA... well I won't need it 99% of the time. Its that 1% that sucks.
I would hate to get stranded because of a damn tire. Since I'm planing on driving it (a lot), I need to be prepared.
Since I can have my cake and eat it too, might as well put some effort into it and get it just the way I want it.
Ya know?
Thanks Mpayne.

Hey Sneeky, actually it was me that made the crack about the spare... And trust me I know about that 1-percent of the time.

Murphy's law is great isn't it. "if anything can go wrong, it will." And it usually happens at the best times too.
