Hooker, or Hedman are good quality for the money. Pertronix is another good company. There's more, but these are the ones I've tried with decent results. You couldn't have picked an easier truck & motor to find parts for.

Thanks John, I see that Hooker and Hedman headers are used a lot in most of the tech articles I see with Chevy engines.

THANKS John for the input. I was leaning toward the Hedmans myself, Hooker disappointed me with my 72 Chevelle so they are out. Now I only have to land on which of the 3 or 4 options I have, that won't be very smooth. Tx again, Bob.

Mr. mpayne, I think soon, would be a perfect oppertunity for a tech article on headers, since I've seen only a couple show up. Almost all the mags I study avoid talking about headers like the plague & I've noticed most all the truck mags do not have very many header manufactures putting in adds either, compare the number of adds with the muscle cars & hot rods.

I see that a lot, in out sister magazine Chevy High Performance header articles are common. I don't really know why the truck groups avoid headers?

REAL glad you noticed too, was feelin out of touch there for awhile. Yeah the pickins are slim for truck headers, went on the two big mail orders and both narrowed it down to one manufacturer and only a couple of options depending on what your needs are like; coated yes/no, ceramic or painted, full length, shorty etc. You guys I'm sure would be hero's mine for sure but I'm betting theres alot of folks out there scratching there heads too. It's time someone step up and tackle this question. Thanks for the help and input. I'm not sure of this sites policy on stating company names & manufacturers. Is it ok to mention the two mail order companies and the manufacturer they recommend on this forum?

I didn't get a reply on my request for an article shedding some light on headers & classic truck installations, comparisons, application, fit & function.

Hi king-bob, I never had a Headman Header that did'nt burn plug wires,or did'nt needed three different tools to pull spark plugs. Doug thorley is the best in my book. I've been using them for years. I just bought patriot clippsters for my 56, heard there great, will see. Mikevw

I'm developing a header and exhaust tech feature for CCT that should appear in either the April, or May issue. In the meantime I can tell you that classic trucks are the easiest to adapt headers from other applications. There's more room to route than any car, or street rod application. Block-hugger shorties will fit on just about any truck. We have a Mustang dyno at our tech center in Anaheim, I'd to not only figure out which headers fit, but which ones make the most usable horsepower... we'll see.

Thank Mikevw, Funny story, In Sept of 2007 I called Summit & ordered what I expected to be A set of Thorley's for the 402ci original motor (now the 350ci from my totaled Chevelle ( some butthead hit me while showing off in his '04 Vette and sent me over a 10inch median in my 5inch off the street car, cracked frame etc, etc. He has more money than talent!), what I got was a set of Doug's headers With the AIR tubes, not cool! So talked some more with Summit's guy's and agreed to try out the Hedman HTC #69116, but now that I'm using the 350 I don't need those. Gets better, after doing more research on my own I find out the #69116 are for the C-20 & C-30 and some others but, are not for the C-10, no idea why. This is why I'm such a pain in the ass over this header info. I'll be sending these headers back and await the tech story like a leech. Tx again

Thanks Mike good advise, appreciate the contact info. I will still like to check out the tech article outcome, in fact my motor guy has used Thorly's for most of his builds and also raves about them, so those are the most likely choice. Tx again. P.S. I, with all a noise I made about tech. info. owe it to all to at least wait for the results. Later Guy's KKB.
