Yikes, you are assuming the diagnosis is right. You could have a rod knock, which means game over if it lets loose. Hydraulic lifters can make a clicking noise, but the pushrods making a noise that's a new one one me. Here's the rule of the camshaft, and lifters: You always change both at the same time, without exception unless you live in Anaheim, CA. and your name is Mickey Mouse. Have someone that knows what to listen for check your motor before you do anything.

Okay now we have bent pushrods entering the picture. The only way your are going to solve this problem is to have an experienced person (they call 'em mechanics) look at your engine in person and make a diagnosis.

You need someone that knows what to look for, to take a look at it in person and determine what happened. An experienced mechanic could figure this out no problem. Over, and out.

Sounds like this guy might have some seized valves in the guides which could cause bent pushrods. He needs to pull the heads off and take them to an automotive machine shop to have them checked out. But since he's not gettin a grip on what you tried to tell him, maybe somebody better take his tools off of him! Just my opinion, but I'm stickin to it.

Yeah Smurf, it could be any number of reasons the pushrods bent. Without experience its a real crap shoot.
I'm slammed with the magazine, so this Internet stuff has to take a backseat, but soon as I can I'll blog a list that should make asking these tech questions more productive for folks.

If this thing sat for 8 years. The only thing that could bend pushrods is a stuck valve,or stuck rocker.Get it running then buy new belts. They weather check just like tires.

Sat for 8-years? Okay the plot thickens. Typically some valves rusted shut, and stuck when you fired it up. Bingo, bent pushrods. It would have saved everyone some time knowing more about the 8-year hiatus in the beginning. Pull down the top-end, check the heads, (How many miles are on this thing?) you know what, this motor might be toast. After sitting 8-years, the rings are probably going to be junk. Get new belts and hoses after you drop a rebuilt motor in and you'll be fine. Oh yeah, radiators and water-pumps don't like to sit for 8-years either. I hope you didn't pay much for this truck.
