I have a 60 1/2 ton chevy truck and have been told that a 73-87 front cross member will bolt into the 60 frame. Any words of wisdom on doing this swap.

The frames on the 60-62 were 1 inch shorter in hight Then the 63- 66. Other then that they will fit. You need to drill a couple of bolt hole out. What else I don't know. I put a 75 under my 63 and thats all I had to do. I also did a few other things like graft the 75 frame section were the power stering bolts to, to my 63 frame, one shock mount, the brake hose conectors. Not realy nesseary but cheper then buying a kit for the stering.

The master cylinder should fit. I put a 79 in my 63 welded up the old clutch hole. Make a cardboard template and see. You can get new spring perches from Early Classic Enterprises to put the possi in the 64. They also have the bracket for the power steering to bolt in. So do Brothers, and CPP. There is seven bolts on each side if you get everything cleaned up and ready to go in. You should be able to do it in a afternoon. There is two holes you have to drill and two you might have to file some on and thats it. I cut the mounts for the brake lines off the 75 and welded them to the 63 frame not neded but liked the way they looked better. There is a differance in the roters from 73 to 75. Some are 1 inch and some are 1 1/4 inch so if you want dorped spindles just make sure you get the right ones.

The 1-inch rotors are standard equipment, and the 1 1/4-inch rotors are part of the F44 package known as the Big10. They are also known as Heavy Chevy, and Heavy Half. Google any part of this with Custom Classic Trucks, and you'll find articles on here explaining more.

Parts and kits to convert from drum to discs and lowering arent that bad. The 73s front end will need to be rebuilt, has 380000 miles. Cost really isnt an issue, will be a very slow fram off and will not convert to leaf springs. Basically asking what from the 73 I should keep or should I buy new. Yes, Mr. Gilbert, it is the heavy half. Googling didnt work to my advantage.

Come to think about it, not all of the articles I ran in CCT on my '79 C10 Big10 are posted here on CCT's website. If you know someone with a complete magazine collection of CCT from the last 3-years there's a lot tech stories on C10s that will never appear on here... Talk to you later
