(apologies in advance - I don't know anything about rebuilding cars/trucks)
My Father-In-Law asked me if I would post and see if anyone can help him with some info. He is rebuilding a 66 Chevy Pickup with a 283 v8. He needs to know what his options are for Rear Ends and Transmissions. Meaning (other than the obvious answer of a 66 chevy pickup) what other car and/or truck make/model Rear Ends and/or Transmissions would be compatible with his project.
Any help or insight would be appreciated.

I used a rear end out of a 1980 Chevy Blazer 4x4. I just took the spring mounts off the original 1960 axle housing and welded them onto the the Blazer axle. This also gives you several options on gear ratios.

You are going to have sooo much fun! My 66 had a 12 bolt in it already (I think that it is stock)with 3.73 gears. Good for both street and highway. I changed new axles and drums to get the 5 lug bolt pattern that I wanted. I changed to front-end also, but thats another story.
