Hey guys I just joined the forum and thought you guys could help answer a question for me. My uncle has this 1968 F250 Custom Cab that he is trying to get rid of. He only wants 300$ for the truck. It has a 360 under the hood with a c6 transmission. Now the body is in great shape with only minor rust in spots, and the interior still looks good, but about two years ago the carb backfired and caught on fire burning off the spark plug wires, the ignition wires and some other ones and it has been sitting ever since. I believe he tried to replace the old carb on it and go with a cheap carb. I have talked to some other guys and they said it's always better to go with like a holley or edelbrock to get the best result. Now I can't turn the engine but i believe it may just be frozen. I was thinking about putting some Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders over night and then seeing if it would turn then. The transmission was brand new in it just before the fire and I would think that 300$ is a great deal and it has sentimental value as well to me. What do you all think? I have some money to put into a project and haven't seen any other trucks like this around...I figure all else fails I can just buy an engine kit and rebuild it, but i don' believe the engine is bad as it was used as a daily driver before the fire. Please let me know what you guys think.

$300-Bucks, and with sentimental value? Are you kidding, buy it. I don't have time right now, but buy the dang truck and get back to us. Go you now, buy it!

Good for you, man. The 360 FE has a bad rep, but its because they had smog cams in them. You can ask on here for advice, or get onto one of the hardcore Ford sites for drivetrain help. We'll be glad to answer any of your customizing questions.

I've always used Marvel oil with great results. Well, maybe I did have a couple I had to beat the pistons out with a hammer and punch. Somewhere in my office I've got a product release from someone that claimed they made a solvent that worked like a champ on a frozen engine.

Here's the reality of 11/01/08. If you think you're gonna cut a fat hog by buying that particular truck, it ain't gonna happen. This is not going to last forever, but right now guys are dumping trucks more valuable than a '68 F-250 will ever be, for cheap. The only people out there buying anything today are bottom-feeding chislers. When the economy comes back up the trucks like '56 Ford Big-Windows, and the like will be worth big dough once again.

In short, and I don't want to sound like a smart ass, but these days things are only worth what someone will pay, and the Kelly Blue Book is only a loose guide... very loose.
