I want to put a tilt column in my 1950 chev truck. Wanted to know if anyone out there has done this and what kind of column will slide in. Any info will help, thanks

I've done a couple of these and I can tell you this, if you are not adept to modifying stuff, the steering on your truck is not the place to start. your best bet is to find a custom shop that does this type of work, and let the professionals do it. It may cost you a few bucks but in the end, you'll be glad you did. The steering and brakes are the 2 things that have to work properly every time you get in your truck.

Thanks for taking the time to answer this Smurf. You gave him some good advice. 9-times out of 10 when someone asks a question like this on the Internet they are looking for the cheap way out. I don't want to look I'm a sell-out for the advertisers in my magazine so I didn't jump on here right away and tell him what you did. For you guys that aren't interested in grafting on a steering column from a John Deere, or a Yugo into your truck I would look to Flaming River for a good solution.
See you guys in about two-weeks, I'm working on some web exclusive content, I'll talk to you later.

Hey John! Thanks for the back-up on the advice offered. I agree completely on the 9 out of 10 remark. I've seen so many times where the cheap way out turns into a disaster, or at best, a really shoddy job that I wouldn't feel safe with. I know my own capabilities as far as fabricating, but I'm not going to tell just anybody to go for it, when it's an important safety issue.

Anytime Smurf, and thanks again. Cody Wentz, my associate editor just started posting on here yesterday. The kid is pretty sharp on a lot of this stuff, but anytime you want to jump in and help us out answering questions we sure would appreciate it. We are getting to really kick out the jambs on web exclusive content so my time I can spend on here is limited.

Gee it looks like my computer just went full-automatic — I thought it was a G5 Mac, not an Ingram Mac 10.

Well John, Ya know what they say about *** happening? I guess your computer does that stuff also. Cody is one lucky guy to be Daryll Starbird's grandson and to have grown up around that kind of an automotive atmosphere at such a young age. Keep the ball rollin' Cody!

Hey man i put a flaming river column in my 1953 chev truck it was a breeze to put in and hook to my mustang ii front end.Seen too many guys in our club screw around trying to fit old junk in and it ends up costing them more money and time in the end.
