chevy silverado. didn't really pay too much considering. apparently it's just the starter that's out, and i hope that's all or else i'll be taking the drive back up to this guy's house...lol...
can anyone tell me what motor is in this? he wasn't sure other than he was told it'd been swapped out for an oldsmobile engine... so i'm trying to figure out what this is, so i know what starter to go pick up, since i know about NOTHING when it comes to these things. and then also know whether to start shopping ebay and whatnot for a motor swap...
thanks in advance

A motor swap from eBay? Yeah, nothing like a little "eBay Surprise" to add a little mystery to the mix. If the guy that sold it to you didn't know what the engine is, imagaine what the odds are of guessing what it is. Your engine might have come out of an Olds, but it's a small-block Chevy engine. None of that really matters, get a starter for a '79 305 or 350 and there's a good chance it will work... That's it for my free advice, later.

it's a 350 rocket... that's all i know. got the starter in, it's a grumpy old man after it sits in teh cold over night... so i wanna swap that motor out. just for teh sanity later when ordering stupid things like water pumps etc if something wears out. that way i know what to say i have.
i think it needs a new alternator too it's killing the batteries. but the body wasn't in bad condition thre's hardly any rust.. a few small repair spots but they're small so i wanted something that wasn't full of cancer to start with. i paint so i got that and the body work covered..
