I'm toying around with the idea of putting a newer model S10 stepside bed on my '63 shortbed. Has anyone ever done this before and if so, what sort of challenges will I face?

How did I know this would be the first type of reply that I'd get!? C'mon Balloonfoot, be a little more open minded. I've seen this done to a '55 Chevy Truck and it looked pretty cool. Think outside the glovebox!!

aboz,
The trick will be to do a clean job. Off hand I'd say the S-10's track is narrower than a '63 C-10 it might look Goofy if you don't account for this. And remember always use criticisim as energy to prove people wrong.
Good luck, John

What about a stepside Silverado bed? I'm going to create this in 1:18 scale using die cast models before attempting the real thing. As far as those who would scoff at the idea, believe me I know there are pureist out there who just don't get it. But I view automobiles as atrwork and art is subject to the viewers taste. In my opinion the '63 C10 is one of the most beautiful trucks to ever roll off the assembly line but the bed remained unchanged from the '55 model! When I put the scale model togeather I'll post it for all to see. And if it doesn't work maybe I'll try a Toyota and really get the pureist in an uproar!

Yeah I was waiting for you to figure out that its the '88 up C-1500 shortbed and not an S-10 bed that some guys had used. mostly you see them on '47-54s.
Myself I don't care for them on an early truck, but that doesn't mean you can't do it to yours. This is what customizing is all about, you do what you think looks good, and don't worry about it. Now if you're just doing it to upset people why not graft the rear half of a Ford Galaxy station wagon to the rear of your '63? Do that, and I promise I'll find a place in CCT to run a picture of it. Probably right next to the guy that dropped an Evinrude motor in his '65 Ford F-100.

Yeah John, I liked your comment about criticism fueling one's desire to prove people wrong. I've been using that logic for years. After you've done it a few times, the people around you start to realize that maybe you're not whacked in the head after all. the trick is not to try anything so outlandish that even if it works it would look so stupid that nobody would take the time to appreciate the effort put forward.
