Besides the usual Chevy and Ford drive-trains are there any other engine and transmission builds that you guys would like to see in the pages of Custom Classic Trucks?
For example we have a Y-Block Ford engine in process, and I just dug-up a Nailhead Buick that I'm trying to buy. What about Mopar, like a 413 Wedge or even a 440?
Let me know because I'm planning the next issues and if I don't hear back, you guys will be seeing tech stories on how-to install an air-freshener or fuzzy steering-wheel cover in your truck.
Thanks, talk to you later.

I like Mopar, I think anything Mopar would be a good build. Auto or Stick.

Hello,
I enjoy seeing unconventional motor/trans builds. I am a GM man so maybe a mid 60's GMC V6 with a saginaw 465 on the floor with handlin' high horses?? What do you think...has that been done??

Thomas,
Yeah, I have a Jimmy V-6 in a '64 GMC Suburban. The truck is up in Utah with a friend. I had always kind of thought I would stuff a big 'ol Pontiac in it or something. My cousin in Michigan used to use an old Jimmy with a V-6 to snow-plow, he said it was of the best plow-trucks he ever had... Also they used to make a V-12 in the big GMCs by running two V-sixes inline as I remember... could be wrong.
Anyways, we do have some unusal builds coming up. Is the Saginaw you are talking about a compound 4-speed with a Granny-gear?

Yea John I believe it is a compound 4speed with a granny, I have always heard these are invincible trannys coined the "rock crusher" in some circles. My dad had one in a 63 c10 tow truck with high hump, when I was a kid. I would love to see some info on them. I always wanted to put one in my truck but didn't necessarily know how or what I would have to do to make it economical.

Thomas,
Yeah it's all coming back to me now. The Saginaw 420 was from '48 -67 and the 465 was from '68 -85. They are strictly a truck tanny, not anything you would want for going through the gears. I pitched the 420 in my '66 with a 327 and went with a Classic Chevy 5-Speed. That one change turned my '66 into a hot-rod like you wouldn't believe.

I think it would be great to see a Nailhead build, just because it's not something you see every day in trucks, and they are bitchin looking motors, with plenty of potential for making some decent power.
