John Gilbert: Mark,
A Dodge on the cover is not out of the question. If you have a good lead on a Dodge that deserves the cover let me know. We'll go from there.
Thanks,
John
I believe Mark's truck has been featured by now (sorry Mark, I missed the issue). I'm pleased to see a buildup of an '80's Ram being undertaken by a magazine also. What direction do you guys plan to take with this project? Have you researched parts availability? I think you may be in for a real surprise as resto/mod parts are few and far between. I'm not trying to scare you away from trying, just want to prepare you. A very small group of us has overcome these obstacles to produce some pretty nice rides (yes I'm biased ). If/when you guys run into a roadblock in your buildup, just look to us for help. We couldn't have gotten as far as we did without helping eachother. ![]() Oh, and just so you can see that I know a little bit what I'm talking about... http://cheeto.ramchargercentral.net/photo.html
Keep up the good work guys! Sorry I missed you at the Spokane show...I suppose I could try to pass it off as a '72.

I like all the Show Trucks but how about trucks that do work? Nice clean trucks that are still being used as trucks.

Would you consider running the occasional feature on early vans ? The pre 1970 Econolines, A100 and Chevys. There are many fine looking early vans out there, Coddington is building one as reported in your magazine for SEMA. We recently had the 35th National Truck-In, there were 604 vans there. Early vans both 1967 won the top prizes, best of show went to a pro streeted 67 Ford and the new Golden Eagle award (best first time shown) went to a beautifully restored 67 Chevy that was built by a father and son team. You can check out the pictures at showtrux.com
Please let me know if there is any interest in having early vans and van events featured from time to time.

Sure we'll run an early van as a feature, we've run Econoline pickups in the past.
Same goes for covering a van run. If we can get enough good photos to fill enough pages we'll do a story.
Thanks for asking.

I love my 65 F-100, and I'm always looking for ideas. But it would be nice to see a little variety. Maybe some 30's Willy's, some Hudsons, REO's, Studabakers, International's. You get the idea, represent everyones taste. We all love old trucks and can respect anyone that goes the extra mile for a truck that's harder to restore.

Thanks for the reply John. I will get in touch with you to show you some of the classic vans that are out there taking home the gold.

I think the mix of trucks you are covering is fine, though the 60-72 trucks are my favorites. I really liked the October 07 issue a lot because it contained an actual story of driving on a longish trip...to Americruise in Lincoln. Well-done! More stories like that, please!
The pro-street type trucks don't interest me quite as much because they seem so impractical for long cruises.
Another suggestion: tech articles about things like approaches to taigate customizing or keeping water out of Chevy doors. The 60-66 trucks are bad about that and new replacement parts don't fix it.

Yeah, driving to Americruise was the best part of my summer. Looking back I took a real chance running a $1,600 truck I had only owned for a little while. I'm hoping the guys at Rod & Custom will do it again and the big-boss will let me go.
We have a bunch of '60-66 tech coming-up, sealing the doors up is a part of it... I guess you know I have a mangy 'ol '66. This winter it's coming down to the frame, I think, I hate to tear down a perfectly good truck... maybe perfect is too strong a word.
Talk to you later

Bad news Lewis. We aren't doing Americruise anymore, but R&C is going to Bonneville for the 60th. I think I'll tag along with my '72 F-100 and cover it for CCT.
